Friday Will Be St BearCatty's Day

Well, the bearcats got a raw deal and wont be in the big dance, but they will still be a part of postseason play in the NIT (or little dance)

They will play Friday at Home vs either Charlotte or Georgia Southern. (on St Patty's Day now known to some as St Bearcatty's Day)

I'll put all the tourney times and dates for the other locals who will be dancing on the to do list.
Congrats to them and to all who made the field of 65.
Gonna be a great Dance even though there is a glaring oversite and one team misssing that should be in it

Still a whole lotta postseason teams around here when just a few weeks ago it looked like there may not be any.

OK, Here's the deal.

When the bearcats play of Friday Night, you turn them on instead of the big Dance.

hence, temporarily "snubbing" the dance the way the Bearcats were snubbed.

Bourbon benefits college kids
Special 'Big O' label proceeds fund scholarships

Oscar Robertson is better known for hoops than horses.

But the University of Cincinnati basketball legend is only too happy to toast the March 25 running of Turfway Park's Lane's End Stakes to help raise money for college scholarships.

Robertson's "Big O" moniker is emblazoned on a commemorative bottle of Kentucky bourbon.

For the third year, Maker's Mark has produced a special series for the Lane's End Stakes, the annual Kentucky Derby Prep race run at Turfway Park in Florence.

Proceeds from sales of the special edition go to a local charity. This year's beneficiary is the Oscar and Yvonne Robertson Family Fund, which raises money for college scholarships awarded to University of Cincinnati students.

Robertson was a standout at the University of Cincinnati, averaging 33.8 points a game and winning the national scoring title three times (1958-60). He was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals and was the NBA's Rookie of the Year in 1960-61. He spent 14 years in the league, going to the Milwaukee Bucks after the Royals.

The 2,000 bottles go on sale for $20 apiece Friday at about 100 liquor stores in Northern Kentucky, the only part of the state where they are sold. About $20,000 is expected to go to the scholarship fund, according to Maker's Mark CEO Bill Samuels Jr.

The bottles were unveiled Tuesday night during a restaurant reception.

"We appreciate everything you are doing," Robertson said.

Robertson, who joked about suffering from a sore leg, said he was eager to try some of the bourbon.

"I tell you, it will help your heart," he said. "It will help you sleep. It might even help my leg."

Turfway Park President Bob Elliston said Robertson's charity was chosen "because of the fine work it does in the community. The Lane's End is one of the really big events leading up to the Kentucky Derby. We're so fortunate to have the Big O associated with this. He was the best ballplayer to ever play the game.

Well, it was a Happy bearcatty's Day for all Bearcat fans as they won and move on to the next round of the NIT.
